About the Event - Corporate Challenge
The SCRABBLE® Corporate Challenge is Frontier College’s preeminent fundraising event.
It is a fun-filled evening that sees Bay Street law firms, investment firms, financial institutions and blue chip corporations play SCRABBLE® and compete against each other for the coveted TMX Cup, while raising funds for Frontier College, Canada’s literacy organization.
Teams consist of four players and four guests. Each player dons a team jersey and plays SCRABBLE®, competing against three competitors. There are three ways to win:
1. The team with the highest score wins the TMX Cup.
2. The team with the highest score in their business conference wins their conference title.
3. The three individual players with the highest scores win the Three Stars Award.
At the event, players can increase their chances of winning by purchasing Helpful Assists. There are different types of Helpful Assists available, including word lists and world-class SCRABBLE® players, known as ringers, who will come to your table, look at your letters and help you come up with a seven letter word, a triple score word or a word that will increase your score.
Guests get to meet and mingle with other senior level executives from competing corporations, cheer on their team, play impromptu SCRABBLE® games, bid on fantastic silent auction items, enjoy canapés and cocktails and take in the competitive atmosphere.
In 2010, 43 teams participated, including TMX Group, Scotiabank, Barrick Gold, CNW Group, Bell Canada, Standard & Poor's, CIBC, TELUS and TD Bank Financial Group.
This year, we hope to increase participation to 50 teams and increase the amount of money we raise to improve literacy for children, youth and adults across the country.
